Tracking Emotions

Tracking how you’re feeling from day to day can be a helpful and mindful practice. By checking in with yourself at the end of each day you can take stock of what emotions you’ve experienced, activities you’ve enjoyed, and difficulties you’ve learned from.

To gain the most from this practice it’s helpful to focus on emotions overall, not focusing too much on a negative just because it’s a negative, but balancing it with the positive and so-so feelings. It’s also helpful to view the difficult situations faced as a way to learn and improve future interactions. Thirdly, highlighting activities that have brought you joy will help you remember these activities in the future while also giving you insight into the types of activities and events that bring you joy.

There are several great apps that can help with this activity and give you some further guidance, which I’ve listed below. Daylio is the best free option I’ve found for both iOS and Android.

Daylio: iOS / Android (Free)
Moodnotes: iOS ($4.99)
Moods: Mental Health Tracking: iOS (Free)
T2 Mood Tracker: iOS / Android (Free)
